1. Having a gun in your home INCREASES the odds you or a family member will die with that gun.
2. With a gun in your home you are WAY more likely to kill yourself or a family member than you will ever need it to scare a bad guy.
3. Countries that have limited gun access and semiauto access have lowered their murder rates. Your argument that “only the bad guys will have guns” isn’t truthful.
4. Who the hell do you think you are that you DEMAND the right to have a weapon that can kill a kindergarden class?? Are you fricking kidding me?! Grow up. You don’t need that gun, and WE don’t need some nutjob to take your gun and wipe out a theater or class of kids. Your need to feel powerful does not trump other’s rights to live. Your paranoia does not trump other’s rights to live. Your REFUSAL to get it that if you have a gun you are LESS safe, NOT more safe is not an excuse to increase the odds that others will die. And, your claim that the 2nd gives you the right to have a weapon that can kill a kindergarden class is bullshit.
Now, to those of you who, like me, think we MUST limit the amount of kindergarden class-killing-weapons there is a fact to get. NOTHING I said above means anything to people who cling to their big guns. They do not live their life based on what makes sense.. they live their lives based on the need for power.. they tend to have a paternalistic outlook on the world.. they think power = the right course regardless of outcome.. they think that they need to be able to punish people. So, reason is irrelevant.. they will not be swayed by stats or common sense. We must pass laws. Vote for those with the balls to do the right thing… and, we must have the courage to speak for peace in a culture where the right to kill pressures us to be silent. I will not be silent.. not killing seems better than killing to me.
